The Institute of Japanese Culture has over forty researchers, including ten professors and eleven doctors and doctoral students. Their research mainly involves four areas: the study of Japanese literature, the study of Japanese culture, the study of Japanese language, and the study of Japanese language teaching. The aim of the Institute is to turn itself into an energetic incubator for scientific research in five years and to make efforts to bring up about five to ten renowned scholars with relative advantage and high ability in cross-cultural studies in the country. With these scholars as the core, the Institute will build a number of postgraduate programs with distinctive features and great potential, and try to make four to six of them take the leading position in Hubei Province, so as to lay a solid foundation for the building of one to two first-rate research institutes in the country within ten years.
