With the study of English literature, English literary translation, and teaching of English literature as its areas of research, the Research Center for English Literature aims at promoting the construction of the discipline and the formation of its distinctive features in the field of English literature, and facilitating the academic exchange between CCNU and international academia in an effort to build up an international platform for literary studies. Now the Center has two professors and five associate professors. The average age of the members is forty. Seven of the members are doctors or doctoral students. The Center has already formed distinguished features in the areas of English poetry, American ethnic literature, eco-criticism and English novels, etc., and has completed or is still researching on five research projects funded by National Social Science Foundation, and several more projects funded by Ministry of Education and Hubei Province. The Center has hosted and co-organized a number of large-scale, national or international academic conferences such as the International Symposium on Africa American Literature (2009), the International Symposium on “Literature and Environment” (2008), the International Symposium on American Poetry in the 20th Century (2007), the International Symposium on Langston Hughes (2007), the 2nd Narratology Symposium (2005), etc. Every year the number of renowned scholars from abroad who visits the Center and the members of the Center who go abroad for research or lecture reaches over 10.
