A Brief Introduction to Fine Arts Major
The School of Fine Arts grew out of the Department of Picture Drawing of Central China Normal College established in 1952, was then resumed as Department of Fine Arts in 1985, and was finally established as the School of Fine Arts on the basis of the formal department in April 2004. The school consists of the Department of Fine Arts, Art Design, Visual Arts, the Center of City Image and Contemporary Arts and the Art Institute of Culture. Now it opens five undergraduate majors including the Arts Education (Fine Art), Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, Animation and Drawing, and two postgraduate programs involving Fine Arts and Design Arts. In 2008, the Fine Arts was constructed as a project toward one of the key disciplines of Hubei Province.
In the School of Fine Arts, there are 72 staff members, 59 professional teachers including 21 professors and associate professors, 32 lecturers and 6 assistants. More than 90% of the teachers have got master’s degree and/or doctor’s degree. There are 10 master instructors among in-service teachers. We have undertaken and completed planning projects of the National Social Science Foundation, Humanities and Social Science Planning Project from Ministry of Education and many other social science research projects from Hubei Province. Works from both teachers and students have participated in domestic and international exhibitions and have gotten many awards. The School of Fine Arts, as an important base for education and research in central China, have trained a large number of outstanding teachers and specialized personnel. In addition, the employment rate of graduates has maintained at above 95% in recent years.
The School of Fine Arts, to meet the goal of establishing a high-standard comprehensive and research-based higher educational institution featuring teachers’ education, has made an overall development plan for multiple disciplines, and reestablished the general target for its construction and development. By doing so, it seeks to give prominence to art education, while actively expanding development space, so as to build the school into a first-class research-based and innovation-oriented institution which combines art education and creation with applied arts.

I. Major Introduction
School of Fine Arts of Central China Normal University is one of the earliest school which set up In 2005, School of fine arts began to recruit students of major of animation design. In 2006, the school was granted eligibility of postgraduate education and developed its own teaching characteristics and established the important position of new game design in China. The animation design department continues to develop its role as a site of responsible innovation by fostering academic and curricular opportunities. The first-year students of the school have no major division. In the second year, they choose their own majors and take specialized courses. In the third year they get training through workshop exercises. According to their own interests and tutors' instruction the students can choose one among game design, new media art, cartoon illustration.
II. Educational Objectives
This major is designed to cultivate students to become specialized designers with theory knowledge and practical skills. Students get abilities of 3D game planning, interaction, interface design and they are prepared for occupations of large-scale network game design, cross platform game design, new media art, interactive design, interface design, animation, and CG illustration design.
III. Basic Requirements
Graduates of this major are expected to have the following knowledge and skills:
1.To master basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills of 3D game design
2.To acquire ability to use game engine and present 3D characters, objects and scenes with creativity and ability of producing and creation of new media art
3.To train ability of combining arts and technology to solve problems of digital media design.
4.To be acquaintant with policies of national literature and art, publicity, press, publication and regulations of movies and TV and development trends in the field of animation design.
5.To be familiar with a foreign language and technological skill. and reach the required level.

X. Explanations
1.The first-year students of animation design take the same required General Education Courses as the students of other majors of Fine arts.
2.The department provides two training orientations, focusing on animation design and new media. art with corresponding courses that the students are inspired to take.
3.The department inspires the student to take courses in advertising photography and media history in order to gain credits of general education courses.
4.The curriculum of the department consists of elective and required courses for 30 credits together. Among them the student should gain 17 credits through taking classes of illustration, photography and manual.
5.The students are required to accomplish a series of professional practice teaching of internship, scenery sketch and professional field trips.
6.Within the prescribed period, the students take the required courses and gain 99 credits. Meanwhile the students are required to get 3 credits of community education courses and accomplish Laboratory and Practice. In addition, the students should meet the foreign language requirements set by the Central China Normal University. In the fourth-year after the students accomplish graduation design and graduation design Report, they get graduation permission from the university. The university grants the students degree who meet requirements for Bachelor of Arts.
