School of Physical Education and Sports

The School of Physical Education and Sports was established in 2005 by merging the former Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Department of General Physical Education, which can trace back to 1950, ranking among the top ten Chinese sports institutes offering Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees.


It has two undergraduate programs: physical education and athletic training, while the former program is the National Characteristic Program. The School boasts both a first level discipline majors at master’s and doctorate levels; programs include Sports Humane Sociology, Physical Education and Training, Chinese Traditional Sports and Sports Physiology. There are 1100 undergraduate students, 300 postgraduate students and 25 Doctorate students. The Sports Cultural Development Research Center of State Administration of Sports is affiliated to the School as well.


At present, the School has over 110 staff members, including 13 professors, 55 associate professors, 9 international referees and national referees, 1 world champion. There are also 2 MOE New Century Excellent Talents, 1 Hubei Youth Expert for Outstanding Contribution and 1 Hubei Teaching Master Teacher. The School Physical Education has been elected as the National Quality Course, and Gymnastics Hubei Provincial Quality Course. In recent years, the faculty have undertaken 15 national projects of different kinds and over 50 provincial projects, and published more than 30 monographs or text books and 500 research papers, in addition to 1 ministerial second prize and 2 third prizes.


The School owns a gym fully equipped with sports facilities. It also attaches great importance to the nationwide fitness campaign and has taken part in various sports contests. As a result, it has, for several times, been awarded the honorary titles of national advanced unit of mass sports activities. In recent years, it has made rhythmic gymnastics a feature of its own and over 10 people from them have won the first prizes in some national contests.
